The world spun slower and slower, as the world became blurry and the floor rose up to come in contact with my back and the fog of the early morning turned to a black mass of nothing. The arms around me seemed nonexistent and the feeling of flying overcame my body as i succumbed to the world pulling me in. A green grassy area appeared before me full of luscious red oak trees and yellow flowers the color of the sun. The scene unfolding before me was only what i saw in every one of my dreams, and then i saw him.
His brown hair coming just above his ears was getting long and and was in need of a good trim, it was official, i was back and he was mine again. I made my way over to the boy facing the opposite direction as me and jumped on his muscular back as we always did when we were little, and i kissed the spot beneath his ear. The sweet chime of his voice rang in my ears “Princess, i missed you!!” his arms dropped from my knees and i fell back onto the soft grass, my feet landing with a soft thud, as he faced me with a smile bigger than life.
His lips dipped down and he was coming closer and closer as he always did, but this time our lips did not meet, we were not lost in a kiss, and the shaking never ceased.
His blue orbs were implanted in my mind as he no longer stood towering above me and the face of him was replaced with one just as gorgeous and known just as well, dayton. His name filled my brain and all memories of both boys raced through my already busy mind. Then it hit me. The poison snuck into my drink by my doppelganger, the masquerade ball, that kiss. Everything was still a blur, except for dayton, and how he never left my side that night, until they struck.
“Dayton! what is going on, what happened, where did they go, how am i still even alive? Why are they trying to kill me?” The frantic words poured out of my mouth and his worry filled face told me things were not okay and we had just barely escaped with our lives.
His rough calloused hands with small droplets of blood reached up and touched the beginnings of a bruise on my cheek, “Hey, shhh, Tay, everything will be fine, and you fainted, you lost some blood and blacked out, luckily, i was close enough and caught you before you face planted like you always do.” he looks to the ground and chuckles slightly at my clumsiness i always carry around. “ They fled when i summoned the frontstone, and i used my blood to mend together that big gash Makon gave you. Taylee, you have to understand that you are not normal, and you can’t fight your gifts and still stay alive without using your powers.” the unbelief that raged through me was like a wildfire that was refusing to be put out. I had fainted when my main task had not been finished and i let them get away, i was a failure and i had not been able to complete what everyone had wanted me to.
His hands gripped mine and he hurled me up from the ground gently as he always had been even with the ability to kill me at the snap of a finger, with me finally up and on my feet he wrapped an arm around me and i leaned into his sweet embrace of the boy i love forgetting about the one in my dream just a mere five minutes ago. We waddled back slowly to Dayton’s white jeep as i climbed my way in as slowly as i could not wanting to make my way back home and to the place where i was not welcomed so i did the thing i had many of times, “Dayton, dont leave me alone tonight i wont be able to sleep, can i please stay with you?” The desperation in my voice gave hint and he knew just what i was talking about when it came to my family.
“Only always” he spoke turning his head away from the wet pavement and met his eyes with mind with the most caring look he had ever given me and the calmness spread through me. His calloused hand reached for mine across the bench seat and he enlaced our fingers leaving my heart racing and a smile on my face.
